Interesting venues

For a dining experience with the wow factor, visit Piazza by Anthony in the Grade I listed Corn Exchange building. The stunning elliptical glass roof makes for a wonderfully radiant setting during the day, and is even more special when softly lit in the evening. Explore the chocolate, cheese, ham and bakery shops next to the brasserie where the produce is made for all of Anthony's four Leeds eateries. The Tiled Hall Café is a recently rediscovered gem. The stunning blue mosaic ceiling and walls of the Tiled Hall were hidden for the last fifty years behind a false ceiling, bookcases and panelling. The Café, located between Leeds Art Gallery and Leeds Central Library, is now a popular spot for homemade soup, sandwiches and cream teas made with the very best local produce.
If your taste is more retro Americana, you'll love Shaky Jakes fifties style milkshake bar in Headingley. With infinite flavour combinations using all your favourite chocolate bars, cakes, sweets, biscuits, fruit and more (over 200 options!), this is the place to experiment and indulge in a guilty pleasure!

Events

Leeds Loves Food festival offers a taste of the city's top eateries in July. Expect a weekend of culinary delights, celebrating all things gastronomic! Regular Farmers Markets are held at Kirkgate Market in Leeds as well as Otley, Pudsey, Headingley, Wetherby and Yeadon. Here you'll find an array of delicious local produce ranging from ostrich and venison to rhubarb cheese and cupcakes! The Lounge Bar & Grill Wine Club is a monthly gathering for lovers of wine (and food) with each event hosted by a leading wine expert.

Local heroes

Leeds is home to many fantastic local producers and independent restaurants and bars. Leeds Brewery has three pubs in the city centre, each with a different style, the flagship being The Midnight Bell gastro pub - also the name of one of their home brewed beers.

Hansa's Gujarati Indian Restaurant has been in business in Leeds for over 20 years. It's fresh, innovative vegetarian cuisine has a loyal fan base in and around the city. Bibi's Italian restaurant is a firm favourite with it's glamorous art deco interior, outstanding service and fabulous Showtime music events.
Pickles and Potter are well known for making the best sandwiches in Leeds. Their cafe in Queens Arcade is always bustling as shoppers queue for their quirky, organic treats. There are a number of restaurants serving local produce menus too: The Arts Café, Bryans Fish and Seafood Restaurant in Headingley and The Restaurant at Woodlands to name but a few.

Award winners

In 2006 Anthony's at Flannels received (and still retains) a Michelin 'Bib Gourmand' entry in the famous guide, honouring restaurants that offer "moderately priced menus that offer good value for money and serve carefully prepared meals". Popular eatery The Olive Tree, with outlets in Rodley, Chapel Allerton and Far Headingley, is recommended in the Which? Good Food Guide 2009. In Leeds, Anthony's Restaurant (modern European) on Boar Lane scored a tasty 7 out of 10 in the Good Food Guide for its "avant-garde excellence".  Fourth Floor Café and Bar (British) at Harvey Nichols on Briggate was described as "Leeds' best kept secret" and Sous le Nez en Ville (modern European) on Quebec Street as a "subterranean jewel". Brasserie 44 (modern European) was congratulated with a well-earned 3 for its good ingredients and consistency, time and again.

Celebrated chefs

Anthony Flinn - Formerly trained at the internationally coveted El Bulli in Spain, he is still the only Englishman to have ever worked there. Raymond Blanc not only has a Brasserie Blanc restaurant in Leeds, but one of his former employees at Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons, Michael Ricci now has his own restaurant in Leeds - Siena. The Bird restaurant in Alea Casino is the brainchild of Vineet Bhatia - the first Indian Chef to receive a Michelin Star in the UK. There's a theatre kitchen to watch the chefs in action and an opulent 16-seat private dining area. Everything on the contemporary Indian menu has a five star appearance except the bill - it's fantastic value. The well-loved Exective Chef Richard Walton-Allen is celebrating 10 years at Leeds Harvey Nichols Fourth Floor Cafe. A champion of Yorkshire produce, Richard has created a real treat to mark the event - a Ten Course Tasting Menu inspired by great produce and a wandering palate, full of his customers and his team's favourite dishes.
