Opera North Autumn Season 2015

3 August 2015

This Autumn Opera North presents Cole Porter’s jazzy Broadway sensation alongside two contrasting revivals from the opera repertoire; Rossini’s door-slamming farce The Barber of Seville and Tom Cairns’ production of Janácek’s powerful tragedy Jenufa. The season opens at Leeds Grand Theatre on 24 September before embarking on their well-established tour circuit of iconic Northern venues including: Theatre Royal Newcastle, The Lowry Salford Quays and Theatre Royal Nottingham.

A decade after England’s legendary 2005 Ashes victory, cricket icon Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff is set to share his memories at Leeds Grand Theatre on Sunday August 30th. The 2005 Ashes victory propelled Freddie Flintoff to sporting legend status making him one of England’s most admired cricket stars of all time. Famed for his record-breaking performances and well deserved legacy as one of the game’s greats, hitting the ball harder than any other cricketer and being able to bowl accurately at 90mph, he became the most feared all-rounder of his generation. The 2005 Ashes saw his pinnacle career performance and won him the title of ICC and PCA’s player of the year as well as the BBC’s Sport Personality of the Year. To celebrate this sporting milestone - and to share his memories of that long, hot summer - Freddie and his TV producer & writer friend Clyde Holcroft will take to the stage with a brand new live show.

World's best-selling thriller welcomes new cast members to double anniversary production in Leeds. Three more famous faces from stage and screen are set to become Agatha Christie’s latest guests as they join the UK tour of And Then There Were None this summer, which marks the 10th anniversary of The Agatha Christie Theatre Company and the 125th anniversary of the author’s birth.

Childhood memories inspire new work by Yorkshire artist…

A new exhibition in Leeds uncovers the childhood memories of Yorkshire based artist Chiu-I Wu. An exhibition celebrating the human form starts this Saturday 1st August at Leeds Craft Centre and Design Gallery. Featuring the work of Yorkshire based artist Chiu-I Wu, Figure That explores various materials and techniques by British makers in a unique collection of functional and sculptural ceramics, sculptural wire pieces and works in mixed media.

Hyde Park Picture House to open its doors for Yorkshire Day Celebrations

On Saturday 1st August the Hyde Park Picture House is set to open its doors for a day of free screenings and activities, celebrating this year’s Yorkshire Day. The day, made possible thanks to support from funders Leeds Inspired, will celebrate film making and watching in Yorkshire, as well as showcasing some of the best local artists and food producers in the region.

107 of the UK’s best young musicians are gearing up for an 8 day residential course at Sedbergh School in Cumbria in order to master impressive repertoire ahead of their upcoming performance at Leeds Town Hall on Saturday 15 August – all of them 13 years of age or younger! The National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain (NCO) Under 13 Orchestra will deliver an exceptional performance at Leeds Town Hall. There is stunning and recognisable repertoire in store, from Tchaikovsky’s beloved Symphony No 5 to Márquez’s fiery and exotic Danzón No 2.
