The number of hot yoga studios in the UK has grown exponentially over the last ten years, but the North has had to wait a little longer than the rest of the the country. We couldn’t be more excited to grow the Bikram Yoga community in the Leeds area. With more and more people signing up every day it seems the ‘Bikram Bug’ is catching!
Bikram Yoga consists of a set 90-minute series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises, performed in a room heated to 40 degrees Celsius. The heat allows the muscles and ligaments to relax, and helps the practitioner attain a deeper stretch and a more effective full-body workout. The benefits of this form of yoga have been widely researched, and scientific data shows it to have a positive effect on many health conditions such as anxiety and depression, osteoporosis, diabetes and insomnia. Anecdotal evidence also points to Bikram yoga as helping with addiction recovery and being very effective for healing and preventing sports injuries. Many professional athletes and celebrities are now incorporating Bikram yoga into their training routines including Andy Murray, boxing champion Scott Quigg and even Lady Gaga!
