The Leeds Craft Centre and Design Gallery have six exciting new shows for Christmas start on Saturday 5th November. Take a look below to find out what they have in store for you this Winter.

 

On Yer Doorstep
5th November – 7th January 2017

Celebrating award winning makers from around the region to showcase the talent that’s right on our doorstep and discovering the links makers have with Yorkshire. Featuring star of The Great Pottery Throw Down 2015 Sandra Whyles alongside Emily Stubbs (pictured; 3 colourful vessels), Rowena Brown, Chris Hindley and Rebecca Appleby.

Up Front
5th November – 7th January 2017

A diverse range of contemporary ceramics, wood, wire, textiles and works in mixed media are brought together in this exceptional front of house Christmas exhibition. Techniques and processes are explored and stories are told as we bring the best of contemporary craft to visitors of Leeds. Featuring work by Frances Noon, Samantha Bryan (pictured; fairy sculpture), Christine Pike, Jane Strawbridge, Vivienne Sillar, Debbie Page, Jean Tolkovsky, Roger Bennett, Jasmine Simpson and Sally Burnett.

In the Spotlight

Intriguing collections of jewellery, turned wood, porcelain, small keepsake items and lots more besides are showcased in this annual exhibition where we explore the intricacy and diversity of contemporary craft by some of the most talented British makers today. Featuring work by John Parsons, Ann Povey, Mauri Ann Beardshaw, Rozie Keogh, Emily Richard, Stephanie Tudor (pictured; selection of rings), Angela Learoyd, Jane Strawbridge and Jennie McCall.

The Jewellery Show
5th November – 7th January 2017

Every Christmas we select jewellers who are at the cutting edge of contemporary jewellery design to showcase their collections in our Christmas exhibition programme. This year is no exception as we explore brand new and exciting makers and those more established. Silver, gold, acrylic, precious and semi-precious stones are explored making an inspiring show for visitors to uncover. Featuring work by Mandana Oskoui (pictured; 3 necklaces), Rebecca Sarah Black, Wendy Sarah Pacey, Kathryn Williamson, Rachel Jones, Alison Phillips, Rauni Higson and Julia Smith.

Solo Ceramic Showcase – Christine Cummings
5th November – 7th January 2017

Christine Cummings unique style and love for the natural world is captured by her beautifully hand crafted animal sculptures. Using a mixture of crank bodied and stoneware clays she is able to bring her research and sketches to life; the finished pieces complimented by her own unique method of Raku and smoke firing.

Print Exhibition – John Duffin
5th November 2016 - 25th February 2017

A member of The Royal Society of Painter Printmakers, John has shown extensively both in London and closer to home with this being the first solo show he has had here in Leeds. To mark this occasion John has created new prints of Leeds and other exciting cities near and far. John’s work speaks of his experiences of city life and of the struggle of man against an often domineering urban environment.
