From LA to Leeds, Doubletree exhibits new work from leading UK artist
A new collection of paintings by leading UK artist Lincoln Townley, depicting the frenetic energy and dark underbelly of Los Angeles, are on display at Doubletree by Hilton Leeds City Centre, prior to their showing at London’s Royal Academy from the 22nd October. The exhibition is a rare opportunity to see the work in the north of England, before it jets off to Beverly Hills in Los Angeles at the end of October.
Having painted many of Hollywood’s leading stars including Charlie Sheen, Nick Nolte, Harry Dean Stanton and Al Pacino, The ‘ICONS’ Collection is the culmination of Townley’s recent work.
The exhibition will be displayed throughout the hotel’s City Café restaurant, walkways and SkyLounge, and features 20 of the ‘ICONS’ collection, including portraits of Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise and Robbie Williams.
The series of paintings have been created in the haunting style that has made Townley one of the most talked about artists on the contemporary art scene. Describing the process of creating such distinctive works of art, Townley comments: “I express myself without fear. I descend into familiar, dark places, which, on many occasions, have almost consumed me. I paint without restraint.”
This new exhibition is part of DoubleTree by Hilton Leeds City Centre’s ongoing remit to champion the cultural community in the region. The hotel team regularly work in partnership with key arts venues including Northern Ballet and the West Yorkshire Playhouse, offering guests and visitors an introduction to the strong cultural scene in the city.
