New to Leeds - MANS Market
Expect the unexpected…
For several months, an exciting new restaurant venture set to launch in Leeds has been shrouded in mystery, with the minimal information drip-fed through social media platforms only adding to the enigma.
However, as the saying goes – good things come to those who wait, and the wait is almost over.
Mans Market opened for business on 7th November and promises to make you fall in love with Chinese food all over again, with a hip new approach to the entire dining experience and over 100 covers.
A world of inspiration
Drawing inspiration from around the globe, entrepreneur and Candypants founder, Ray Chan, says the concept was born from reflecting on my adventures in places such as Hong Kong and New York City. Armed with knowledge and new ideas, he then began to build the foundations for a brand that could give the market the adrenaline shot it so badly needed.
Located in the newly-developed West Point area of the city centre, the jet black doorway adorned with neon signage gives very little away as to what lies within. Walking through the entrance throws visitors a bit of a red herring, and only serves to give the ultra-cool basement bar and restaurant down below the extra wow factor.
Chinese food remixed
But, the handsome décor would mean nothing without a well-crafted menu and an ambitious chef to bring it to life - and this is where Mans Market really brings the noise. Consisting of remixed versions of popular Chinese dishes such as Crispy Aromatic Duck Rolls priced at £6.50 and the signature main course of Mans Mountain Rice priced at £8.50, the menu has wide appeal, and at a price that makes it accessible to all. The bar also boasts a laid-back bar area serving handcrafted cocktails such as Ladies Market Espresso priced at £7 and their house beer TsingTao priced at £3.50.
Add to this a private-dining area for parties and a revolutionary approach to service, and you’ve got a fresh concept that embraces Chinese culture with subtle nods to both past and present, but with a laser-like focus firmly on the future.
Feel good factor
In short, this is the kind of joint that will make you feel good, whether you’re knocking back shots at the bar with friends or dining out on date night.
As the doors open to the best kept secret in Leeds, Ray had this to say about the launch:
“Having grown up in a Chinese takeaway I’m really excited about reinventing and re-energising Chinese dining in Leeds. I’ve been watching the market for years whilst working in the nightlife industry with my events company Candypants and I feel now is the perfect time to bring MANS Market to life.”
