M&S pop-up archive comes to Leeds Trinity centre

This July, fashionistas in Leeds will be in vintage heaven as the M&S Company Archive brings its pop-up archive to Trinity Leeds. Visitors will be able to view rare examples of vintage clothing from the Archive collection, and will even be able to try on an assortment of nostalgic garments from the Archive’s handling collection, which has been specially created for public events.

Following the success of the M&S ‘Dressed in Time’ Fashion Show in May, the free event will take place outside M&S in Trinity Leeds on Saturday 16th July. Visitors will be able to step back in time and try on replica garments from the archive’s handling collection, including items from the glamourous 1930s and chic 1970s. The handling collection has been created for community outreach and events.

M&S archivists will be on hand to talk through the collections and popular styles of past decades.

Items from the collection will also be on display, including star trends such as 1930s pyjamas, 1940s wartime fashion, 1960s school uniform and 1970s disco style.

Katharine Carter, M&S Archivist, said: “Our Dressed in Time fashion show was a real success so we wanted to share some of the key pieces with the rest of Leeds to really showcase some of the gems in our Archive. It’s a great opportunity for people to try on some key trends from decades gone by and explore the fascinating history of fashion at M&S.”

The Pop-Up Archive will take place from 9am until 8pm. Booking is not required, just drop in. If you’re visiting Leeds for the day, pop into the Leeds store for a spot of retail therapy or treat yourself to a coffee and a cake in our café. The store is open between 8am and 8pm on Saturday 16th July.

Share your pics from the event with the hashtag #MandSHeritage. Visitors will also have the opportunity to enter a prize draw at the event to win an M&S hamper.
