Royal British Legion Leeds To Launch Poppy Appeal at The Light

On Friday 23 October, the Royal British Legion in Leeds will launch their Poppy Appeal at The Light.

Taking place from 3pm to 4pm in The Courtyard, the launch will open with a welcome by David Marshall, the Chairman of the RBL Leeds Group, followed by an introduction by Liz Green (BBC Radio Leeds).

Visitors can watch a Parade of Standards, a solo acoustic performance by Nigel Rae and a performance by Leeds Festival Chorus.

The event will include an Act of Remembrance, with two minutes of silence, followed by a presentation of poppies by the Lord Mayor of Leeds.

Last year, Royal British Legion Leeds raised £381,512 for the Poppy Appeal and they are hoping for similar success this year.

David Marshall, from RBL Leeds, said: “Our Poppy Appeal always has a fantastic response and last year we broke our record with over £380, 000 raised. We’re looking forward to our launch at The Light on Friday helping to make this year’s campaign even bigger and better. The Poppy Appeal 2015 will have over 45 million poppies distributed by 350,000 dedicated collectors country wide.”
