Get your Free Comic Book in Leeds on May 7
Leeds comic book store Travelling Man will be taking part in the international festival of comic books, “Free Comic Book Day” (FCBD) on Saturday May 7.
The day, which takes place on the first Saturday of every May, started in the USA in 2002 to introduce people to the world of comics, but is now a global event.
Anyone walking into one of the participating stores is guaranteed a free comic book from a selected range. This includes TV and movie tie-ins, humorous and serious titles and comic books aimed at all ages from children to adults.
Travelling Man is located at 32 Central Road, off Kirkgate in the city centre, and was founded in the city in 1991 by Nabil Homsi, who is still its owner. The store now also has branches in Manchester, Newcastle and York and all four branches are taking part in this year’s FCBD.
Nabil said of FCBD: “Comic books have been an important part of my life and of course became my career, but I’ve always had to compete with people saying they are ‘just for kids’. FCBD is a great opportunity for people of all ages to take home a comic book and see that they can cover weighty topics as well as fun and action – and every year we win a few converts!”
