White Rose Theatre presents: Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs
This December, the historic Tetley site will play host to a fantastic star-studded production of one of the best-loved fairytales of the last two centuries; Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs.
Originally published in 1812, the classic Grimm Brothers fairytale has been a top grossing hit for Disney since 1937.
Taking inspiration from the legendary King of Pantomime, Francis Laidler, who built the Bradford Alhambra, the ambitious £1m+ spectacle is the brainchild of Bradford born David Lee, whose enchanting productions currently total over 200 to date.
The cast is led by Geordie Shore heart throb, Scotty Timlin, who is stepping up to the role of the swashbuckling Prince. Scotty T has become one of TV’s best-loved reality stars in recent years, with memorable appearances on ‘Ex on the Beach’ and the 17th series of Celebrity Big Brother, where he walked away as the champ!
Speaking of playing Prince, Scotty T said, "Some might say that I am already the crowned Prince of Newcastle, but I'm proper looking forward to putting on my crown in Leeds and having a crack at Snow White this panto season! Come and see me and my co-stars in action. It is sure to be pure mint!"
But, who will be co-starring alongside our dashing romantic lead? Brookside and Last of the Summer Wine star, Louis Emerick, who is currently treading the boards in the electrifying stage adaptation of ‘The Full Monty’ will be showing off his seasoned acting chops playing the Royal Tax Collector.
Ermerick states, “Having worked in two previous pantomimes for David Lee I know the high standards he sets, therefore the people of Leeds and West Yorkshire can look forward to the Biggest, Brightest and Spectacular pantomime to come to Leeds for some time, that’s why I’m proud to be part of it….I can’t wait!”
Tupele Dorgu is known to millions of UK soap fans for her role as plucky machinist Kelly Crabtree in Coronation Street, as well as a stint in Hollyoaks, but prepare to be blown away by her spellbinding performance as the Wicked Queen.
"Leeds is such a great city and always has brilliant audiences. I'm so happy to be returning to work here”, says Dorgu.
Radio Aire Breakfast Show presenters will play Royal Courtiers with Kelly Pegg playing Private Secretary to the Wicked Queen and Ant Arthur playing Lord Chamberlain. The presenters will appear separately at alternating performances.
King of the Diddy Men, Ken Dodd, makes an appearance via digital projection in the Wicked Queen’s Magic Mirror, ensuring her evil highness is reliably informed.
Doddy comments, "By Jove! There'll be plenty of tatyfilarious words from me in that Magic Mirror, the Wicked Queen will be completely discomnockerated!”
Plus the ever-popular Children's TV Stars Zippy & George of Rainbow.
But wait… there’s more! Yes, loveable Irish funny-man Jimmy Cricket is making a Guest-Star appearance to add his unique brand of vintage comedy gold to the show and guess what… there’s even more!
A supporting cast of professional and juvenile dancers bring the moves, with the juveniles also doubling up as Snow White’s seven loyal dwarfs.
The role of Snow White is yet to be decided, as we search the land high and low for a girl as talented as she is pure as the driven snow. Open Auditions will be taking place throughout summer in West Yorkshire, in the hope of unearthing some fresh new talent to fill the title-role - do you know someone who has that special something required to charm audiences throughout the season. The White Rose Theatre will be taking over the grounds of the stunning Tetley building from the 8th December 2016 to the 1st January 2017, where a 1400 seat theatre will be erected. Mobile Structures will be responsible for the build and their CEO Colin Enos has a wealth of experience, with clients such as Sir Elton John, Disney on Ice Worldwide and Glastonbury.
Guests will be dazzled from the second they arrive in the foyer, as they are greeted by Tinkerbell, Snow White’s pet Meerkat and other favourites from the land of fairytales. There will also be entertainment from close-up magicians, jugglers, stilt-walkers and face-painters as well as candy floss, popcorn and ice-cream on sale. Adults who like to indulge in the festive season will love the fully stocked bars, including a luxury champagne bar. A large capacity car park also resides in the central Leeds location.
