Leeds West Indian Carnival is the longest running West Indian carnival in Europe, having been going since 1967. The carnival is held in the Chapeltown and Harehills parts of Leeds every August bank holiday weekend. It is attended by an estimated 100,000 people. The procession on Bank Holiday Monday starts and finishes in Potternewton Park where a wide range of stages and stalls provide entertainment and refreshment for carnival-goers. The event is covered by the BBC radio station 1xtra.
Around 70,000 people are expected at Temple Newsam Park in July for the free summer concert, Party in the Park.
Classical Fantasia is one of the best evenings out on the Leeds calendar. The event takes place inside the beautiful grounds of Kirkstall Abbey every September, during one of the last evenings of the Summer. Lit up in an array of colours, the 12th century abbey is a spectacular backdrop for an evening of music from the Northern Ballet Theatre orchestra. The free event has also become well known for it's impressive firework display which accompanies the grand finale.
When the sun starts to shine music moves outside for the Summer bands in Leeds' Parks season. This series of over 40 bands in 22 parks, feature the region's finest brass, jazz and concert bands for everyone to enjoy on lazy Sunday afternoons.

Monday lunchtimes at the Town Hall feature the Town Hall organ whilst Wednesday lunchtimes at Leeds College of music offer you the a chance to hear some of the best upcoming performers in the country, all for free!
Leeds Pride attracts an increasing number of participants each year in celebration of the diversity and equality within the city. Starting with a vibrant mix of entertainment on Millennium Square, a colourful and extravagant parade will make its way through the street of Leeds city centre to Lower Briggate where the outdoor street party continues into the early evening and beyond.
