Gay Bars and Pubs

Fibre is a popular place to see and be seen. From Thursdays to Sundays DJs turn the bar into a mini nightclub with a fantastic party atmosphere. The courtyard area is home to legendary themed parties during the summer months. Highly recommended!

Enter Queens Court through the courtyard that it shares with Fibre. Live DJs play every night from 8pm playing a mixture of pop, camp n' cheesy to funky, anthems and basslines. A lively, fun vibe.

The New Penny is reported to be the oldest gay pub in the UK. Having started off life as the Hope & Anchor in 1953, it's name changed to the New Penny in 1982. Famous drag queens have performed here over the years including Lily Savage and Sisters Slim. The Penny, as it's known locally, is open 7 days a week, with chart, dance & camp tunes played most evenings, plus regular karaoke and fancy dress nights.

The Viaduct is a gay pub which has entertainment on all weekend. Fridays and Saturday nights are hosted by their in house drag DJ Anna Glypta and on Sundays a full cabaret show. Mondays are karaoke nights. It's a friendly pub with a good mix of gay men and women.

For a traditional pub head to the Old Red Lion. This pub dates back to the Georgian period, and maintains a lot of it's original features. It's slightly off the beaten track but perfect for a quiet drink of hand-pulled beer.

The Bridge is a busy and unpretentious bar located right in the centre of the "gay quarter". Popular with all ages. They have hand-pulled beers, regular happy hour, video jukebox and the infamous karaoke nights every Thursday.
