Oakwell Hall Country Park

Oakwell Hall Country Park

This Elizabethan manor house has delighted visitors for centuries. Charlotte Bronte was a regular visitor and Oakwell Hall featured as Fieldhead, the home of the heroine in Charlotte's novel, Shirley.

Oakwell Hall was built in 1583 by John Batt and is set out as a family home of the late 17th century with a fine collection of mainly authentic furnishes.

The formal 17th century garden has recently been restored, with box hedging planted in geometric patters, inspired by the wood and plaster designs inside the Hall.

Beyond the gardens are 100 acres of Green Flag award winning country park featuring a visitor centre, cafe, adventure playground and nature trail.
