Living and Working as a Gregory Fellow: A talk abo

Living and Working as a Gregory Fellow: A talk abo

Artist and daughter of sculptor, Hubert Dalwood, Kathy Dalwood will be in conversation with art historian Dr Julia Kelly, discussing architecture and her father's time at the University of Leeds.Hubert (`Nibs`) Dalwood was awarded a Gregory Fellowship in 1955, working at the University of Leeds until 1959. During this period, he was commissioned by a number of universities including Oxford, Manchester and Liverpool. In 1961 he received a commission to produce a large aluminium relief frieze for the student hall of residence Bodington Hall. When the residence was closed and demolished in 2013, the work was cleaned and relocated to the stage@leeds site on campus. In 2012 Historic England listed the work, Bas-Relief work of 1961, granting Grade II status, in recognition of the sculptor's 'new venture on a wholly different scale and technical complexity to anything he had previously made' and for its historic interest as an example of public art commissioning by a university. Kathy will speak about her father's work in addition to discussing architecture and relief sculpture with Art Historian, Dr Julia Kelly.
