The Arts Council Collection is noted for the range and quality of its sculpture with over 800 three-dimensional works. It includes key pieces by Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Anthony Caro, Antony Gormley, Rachel Whiteread and Damien Hirst reflecting the international significance of post-war British sculpture. In recognition of the growing importance and size of its holdings, the Arts Council Collection opened a Sculpture Centre at Longside, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, in 2003.
The Sculpture Centre is the result of a major renovation project undertaken by Tony Fretton Architects and funded by Arts Council England with the support of the Henry Moore Foundation. The Centre offers storage facilities and provides the space and resources to improve the care, conservation and outreach of the Collection. The Centre facilitates loans across the UK and abroad to ensure that sculpture in the Arts Council Collection is accessed as widely as possible.
Adjacent to the Centre is Longside Gallery - a unique space for exhibitions, offering panoramic views of Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) through its wall of windows. Longside Gallery is used on an alternating basis by YSP and the Arts Council Collection.
See below for current exhibitions at Longside Gallery.
YSP Grounds and Centre: 10am - 5pm
The Sculpture Centre is open by appointment only.
