Seven is an independent arts space in Chapel Allerton, Leeds 7, which opened in July 2007. The aim is to deliver and enable high quality arts activity. The space is small but versatile, providing a 100 seat venue for film, theatre, dance, music, words and comedy, together with an attractive and welcoming café bar.
The building of Seven arts centre was the culmination of 10 years of effort since a group of local residents first got together to find ways to improve community spirit through involvement in the arts. An exhibition of ideas and possibilities led to Chapel Allerton Arts Festival and the determination to create a place for arts activity.
We see Seven as having a pivotal role in linking the various cultures along the Leeds 7 corridor, hence the name. It is accessible to a wide range of people, through its good location, well thought-out physical design and varied artistic programme.
Seven is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company. As a CIC, Seven sets out a social mission and provides an annual transparent account of how it delivers on this work. It is governed by a small board of Directors.
The building of Seven and initial set-up was supported by funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
