In Their Footsteps

In Their Footsteps

The First World War was conflict on a massive scale, involving millions of people. It had a lasting impact on the lives and relationships of those involved, both at home and away. This exhibition explores how the lives of people from Leeds were affected during the First World War. It will showcase the impact of war on civilian life, those who fought, nurses and those who worked in Leeds' industries. The exhibition has been curated by Leeds City Museum's group of 14-24 year old curators, The Preservative Party. Highlights will include: A Victoria Cross medal awarded to Albert Mountain, from Leeds A Christmas card made from a standard issue trench biscuit Original documents from some of the Leeds industries that supported the war effort A doll's house made by recuperating soldiers housed at Lotherton Hall auxiliary hospital Visitors will also be able to hear patriotic songs of the era, try on replica uniforms and create their own medal inspired by First World War medals from our collection.
