Ironically titled as a film which actually has no human beings in it, Homo Sapiens is made up of a series of beautifully composed tableaux shots of abandoned and decaying urban spaces. Empty office buildings, burnt out nightclubs, old cinemas, ruined factories and empty silos. Uninterrupted by any voiceover or dialogue, the film has a disquieting power and an eerie sense of the fragility of human existence. Presented in partnership with Left Bank Leeds and the Abandoned Yorkshire photography exhibition created by a collective of urban explorers documenting our lost heritage and changing environment.
