Talking Histories: Industrial Revolution in Leeds

Talking Histories: Industrial Revolution in Leeds

Join us for an evening of history at Left Bank Leeds focusing on our city during the Industrial Revolution.

Building upon the traditional industry in the cloth and textile trade, this exciting phase of development in Leeds also saw a huge expansion in the engineering, chemical and leather industries followed by the growing importance of the clothing and printing manufacturers._ _Leeds was at the forefront of industrialisation, not just in England, but across the world.

This insightful and interesting talk by Rachael Unsworth will chat through the way such industrial growth impacted our city. Learn all about the main movers and shakers of the time and how industrialisation affected the landscape and people of Leeds. Hear all about new innovative products, processes and markets, but also of new problems that had to be addressed.

It will be an informal evening with the opportunity to ask questions to find out about more about the history of Leeds during this time. The bar will be open for drinks and bar snacks.

Doors will be at 7.30pm with the talk beginning at 8pm.

This talk by urban geographer, Rachel Unsworth is part of a series of monthly events run by Left Bank Leeds that will explore the history of the buildings and people of Leeds. It has been made possible with thanks to the support from Heritage Lottery Fund.
