Mill Hill Unitarian Chapel

Mill Hill Unitarian Chapel

Details

Mill Hill Unitarian Chapel welcomes all who wish to explore their spirituality in an atmosphere of tolerance, understanding and friendship.

The Unitarians are a liberal religious movement rooted in the Jewish and Christian traditions but open to insights from world faiths, reason and science.

There has been a Unitarian chapel on City Square since 1674, but the present building dates from the 1848 rebuilding of the chapel.

One of the most eminent of Mill Hill minsters was the Rev Joseph Priestley who was born at Birstall in March, 1733, into a weaving family. During his time in Leeds his research led to the discovery of oxygen in 1774. It is appropriate that his statue overlooks the chapel from City Square.
