Wharf Chambers is located on the ground floor of a Victorian former pork pie factory at 23-25 Wharf Street, LS2 7EQ. It’s on the edge of The Calls near the back of the Corn Exchange.
The venue is accessible to wheelchair users or those with specific access requirements through the back door.
Wharf Chambers is run by a workers co-operative. This means that the business is owned and controlled by the people that you will meet when you visit – those working behind the bar, on the door, sound engineering, cleaning the toilets etc, as well as doing all the behind the scenes administrative work, accounting, maintenance etc. These are the people that make the decisions. As a co-operative we have equal control over our work; we all share responsibility for making decisions and we answer to ourselves- not to a manager and not to shareholders.
The co-operative intend to open a cafe after more work has been completed and planning conditions have been met.
All licensable events (when the bar is open, when there’s live music or a clubnight, etc) are managed by a members club: Wharf Chambers Co-operative Club (W.C.C.C). Members have democratic control of the club. Members of the club can book the events space for live music, club-nights, art events, film screenings, workshops, meetings, etc
Membership is required and takes a minimum of 48 hours to take effect. You will be asked to pay your membership fee next time you attend an event. Go to www.wharfchambers.org to register.
