Details

Kirkstall Abbey is one of the best preserved medieval Cistercian monasteries in the country. Constructed between 1152 and 1182, many of its buildings still survive virtually intact up to eaves level.

It is a particularly good example of early Cistercian architecture, illustrating the transition from the Norman to the Gothic styles. The abbey is situated in an attractive public park in Leeds and is just a short walk from Abbey House Museum situated across the road.
