There are plenty of spooky Halloween events and activities going on in Leeds this half term!

 

Love Exploring Trail App

NEW for Halloween…the Halloween Dance Trail! Ever seen a skeleton breakdance in Trinity Leeds? Or a witch and a zombie boogie together through Roundhay Park? Check out the Love Exploring Halloween trail on offer in Leeds city centre, Middleton Park and Roundhay Park this half term. Discover more about Halloween with their spooky dancers and Halloween quiz. Each dancer has a question about Halloween for you to answer.

Halloween Hauntings. 23rd – 31st October

Discover the blue lady and the ghostly residents of Home Farm and Temple Newsam House during the spooky week of Halloween half term. Hear terrifying tales about the history of the estate and the ghosts and ghouls who creep through the corridors in the dead of night! Come along in your creepiest costumes and don’t forget to tag Temple Newsam on Instagram and Facebook too!

Pumpkin Carving. 27th October

Join Temple Newsam during October half term for traditional pumpkin carving in the Walled Garden, right on time for you to display your jack-o-lanterns at home for Halloween. There’s no need to book ahead, just drop in and all materials (including our home grown pumpkins) are provided! They’ll be ready and waiting for you between 1 & 3pm. 

1k Walk for Toddlers. 30th October 

The FREE TO ENTER 1km walk for under-4s. Is your tiny terror bursting with boundless energy? Stuck for ideas of what to do this Halloween? Looking for a fun activity that helps give back at the same time? Grab your toddler, get your spooky on, and sign up for the first ever sponsored Toddle!  In support of our NHS Heroes at Leeds Children’s Hospital, challenge your toddler to bring their best Halloween costume down to Temple Newsam and ‘toddle’ around the1km route!. Once you’ve completed the course, why not stick around for pumpkin carving, a tombola and spooky games!

Spooky Skeletons Trail. 23rd – 31st October.

Visit Lotherton this October half term and follow the spooky skeletons trail around the estate and into the haunted house! Dress up in your best Halloween costume and prepare to be scared as you explore the woods and seek out all of the skeletons who have made Lotherton their home. A trail will be available to pick up when you visit, along with lots of autumnal and Halloween-inspired crafts.

Don’t miss the Nocturnal House in Wildlife World to see our bats in action! Bring your little ones along for a great day out during the school holidays with plenty of spooky surprises along the way.

Stockeld Park, Skeleton Trail

This Halloween at Stockeld Park, life size skeletons will be taking over in this new, colourful and entertaining theme suitable for all of the family. As you explore the Enchanted Forest to find each skeleton scene, look out for a few extra Halloween surprises, and don’t get trapped in Hansel and Gretel’s Jail!

Escape House – The Attic. 23rd – 31st October

Trapped inside The Attic at one of the most haunted houses in Yorkshire, you and your team must use all your skills and knowledge to escape before your time runs out. Set amongst the vast fields on the Stockeld Estate, the haunted Farmhouse is full of mystery, dark spaces and unforgettable rooms. Bring your best team to take the challenge this Halloween season!

Head into our Enchanted Forest this Halloween and meet the Stockeld Park Witches. Explore the forest to find them and help them finish casting their Halloween spells. This event is not too scary for little ones and perfect for the whole family to enjoy soaking up the Halloween atmosphere! So, join us and the witches in the Enchanted Forest for a spooky Halloween of fun and magic!

Pumpkin Picking. 23rd-31st October

Soak up the magic of Halloween this autumn half term! We’ve got thousands of pumpkins in our meadow ready to be picked! That’s not even the big news! The BIG news is that every child with a paid for ticket will get to choose their pumpkin for FREE! Grab a wheelbarrow and get hunting for your perfect pumpkin!

 

Thackray Museum of Medicine

The Extraordinary History of Blood. 23rd – 21st October

Thackray are exploring blood this October, there’ll be some traditional spooky stuff alongside seriously fun science and history! They will be delivering plenty of talks and tours daily, on a first-come, first-served basis, just sign up to the activities you’d like to take part in on the day.

SFX Workshop: Blood and Cuts! 25th – 29th October.

Take your Halloween costume to the next level and design your own realistic wounds without any of the pain in our special effects workshop! Want to make sure the kids scare the neighbour when trick-or-treating this Halloween or are they just curious about crafting cuts and bruises? This workshop is the perfect addition to your visit this October. In this 45 minute workshop, you’ll be guided by special effects students from Leeds City College who will give you bloody bites and wicked wounds, just like they do in the movies!  See some spooky splatter with their blood show and find out how artists create gruesome gore!

Visit Abbey House Museum this half term and experience the Victorian streets spookily decorated for Halloween. There are scary spiders, wicked witches, wily wolves, bewitching bats and skeletons pulling pints. 

 

Kirkstall Abbey

Haunted Halloween Hunt. 23rd -31st October

Join Kirkstall Abbey this October half term for the Haunted Halloween Hunt! This FREE family trail will take you around the ruined medieval abbey and along the way you will find plenty of creepy creatures, spooky statues and peculiar props. Not too spooky so suitable for all the family.

 

Royal Armouries

Movie Monsters and how to slay ‘em. 23rd – 31st October

The midnight hour is close at hand. Are you ready to tackle vampires, mummies and zombies? It all seems so simple on the big screen. Join the Royal Armouries expert ghost-hunters and monster-slayers as they track down and remove pesky spooks hiding in the museum. Not only do they have one of the oldest collections in the world but it is also one of the most haunted. Join the expert Fantasm & Apparition Research Take-down (F.A.R.T.) team as they help identify and remove the paranormal threat.

It’s about to get spooky down by the arches. Welcome to the Chow Down Halloween weekender! From Thursday 28th October – Sunday 31st October, they will be hosting four days of Halloween fun. 

Thwaite Watermill Halloween Mask Making

Half Term Halloween Trail. 26th – 31st October

Help track down the spooky creatures who’ve been up to mischief around the watermill and see if you can work out the magical spell they’ve created! Pumpkins on the putty tins, witches by the wheels, skeletons on the stairs… what will you discover along the way?! Trails are included within the cost of admission and will be available right through the week, from Tuesday – Sunday. Please wrap up warm. There is no central heating in the mill buildings and it can get rather chilly! Please note that Thwaite Watermill is open Tuesday – Sunday during the Leeds school holidays.

Halloween Mask Making. 26th & 28th October

Decorate your own Halloween mask with autumn leaves and other natural items found around the grounds. Masks are included with general admission and can be collected from the shop on a first come, first served basis (don’t worry, they’ve prepared plenty)! Simply peel back the tape to reveal sticky strips and stick on fallen leaves and foliage as you wander round – the perfect way to jazz up your Halloween costume! All masks are paper based and can be recycled after use. Please ensure that you don’t pick anything that’s growing (loose/fallen items only) and that young children are supervised.

Born into poverty and misfortune, Oliver Twist escapes the workhouse for a life of adventure where he joins Artful Dodger, Fagin and their mischievous gang of pickpockets. But the enjoyment is short-lived as he falls under the influence of the vicious Bill Sikes.

Paint the Scream for Halloween. 30th October

PopUp Painting invites you to sip and paint in Leeds. Unleash your creativity – glass in one hand, paint brush in the other. No experience needed! Your event at Brasserie Blanc, Leeds will be themed around Edvard Munch‘s iconic Scream. Fill your canvas with dramatic fluid lines as you dive into the expressionist world of one of the most iconic images in art.

Halloween Half Term. 26th – 28th October

Come and discover the real stories behind Halloween with our 21st-century witches from the Leodis Pagan Circle. In the family fun craft sessions we’ll be making traditional wiccan crafts, herbal bath bombs from the autumn harvest, willow wands, spell pouches and loads more.

All activities included with museum admission and run between 12.30-3.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. No need to book ahead, just drop in but spaces will be subject to availability.

Halloween Mystery Matinee’s. 28th – 31st October

Did you know that we’re home to one of the UK’s smallest cinemas, just 24 seats to be exact?! Join us in the beautiful 1920’s Palace Picture House for family favourites and vintage classics during the school holidays. Over October half term we’ll be screening family friendly Halloween films (suitable for all ages). Screenings start at 2pm and run Tuesday – Sunday during the Leeds school holidays. Film screenings are included in the museum admission charge. Where else can a family of five go to the cinema for just £10.75?!
