The Dog-friendly Guide to Leeds

21st March 2024

Our pets are one of the family – so why should they have to stay at home while we have all the fun? They shouldn’t! And they don’t have to. Many venues in Leeds welcome our four-legged friends. Below are some of the best dog friendly places in the city.

We couldn’t create a blog on dog friendly Leeds without mentioning Water Lane Boathouse. With a beer garden right next to the waterfront with ample indoor and outdoor seating, this venue serves up great food and drinks and is the perfect spot to enjoy some down time. What’s more this venue loves their dog visitors so much they have a dedicated Instagram account set up for them @Waterlanedoghouse.

Northern Monk Refectory sits pretty in a former Holbeck mill. The refectory serves up fresh beer on tap, brewed just beneath your feet in the brewery on the ground floor. You can bring your furry friend along for a pint or two – for you, not them.

The Brunswick are serving up home-cooked burgers, fried chicken, and wholesome Sunday roasts – claimed to be one of the best in Leeds. With 9 keg lines, 6 cask lines, and over 50 beers in the fridges, it’s the perfect spot for you and your buddy to cool down.

Mowgli, the famous Indian street food eatery which spans the Pennines, serves fresh and bright dishes in metal tiffins. Bringing the true tastes of Indian homes to the streets of Leeds, this restaurant is dog-friendly, so you can take the whole family out for dinner (subject to the manager’s discretion).

Housed in a renovated 19th century building with warm exposed brickwork and big open windows, Lamb & Flag has a great locally sourced, freshly cooked menu, and an extensive range of ales to enjoy in the superb courtyard beer garden. And what’s better than sitting with your shadow in a sun-filled beer garden?

Head to Leeds Dock where you’ll find North Star Coffee Shop and Roasters. These caffeine connoisseurs are pouring ethically sourced shots of espresso made to order and enjoy alongside a cake or pastry from Scandi-inspired Nova Bakehouse. So you can stop for a friendly cuppa while getting your daily walk in.

If … Up North specialise in breakfast and brunch – and coffee, too! Take your pup on a sniff-sensation around the town then fuel up and cosy up amongst the rustic interior with some of the fluffiest pancakes in Leeds.
