3rd April 2018

  • No ordinary chicken shop, Knave’s Kitchen is to bring its unique, 100% vegan fast food menu to Leeds diners from March 29th 2018.
  • The menu features seitan, a wheat protein that looks, feels and tastes like real meat.
  • Knave’s Kitchen to take residency at Leeds’ original dive bar, Oporto, which is undergoing a refurbishment and will relaunch with new interiors and drinks menu.

Knave’s Kitchen, a comfort food pop-up, is bringing its unique menu of vegan fried ‘chicken’ and plant-based junk food to the diners of Leeds this Spring as it takes residency at the legendary Leeds rock & roll bar, Oporto.

Launching from March 29th 2018, Knave’s Kitchen will take over Oporto’s newly refurbished second room where it will serve its 100% vegan menu, which replaces meat with a substitute called seitan, as well as tofu alternatives and onion bhaji burgers.

Seitan is a plant-based protein that looks, feels and tastes like real meat. Like chicken, it absorbs seasoning and flavours making it a delicious, plant-based alternative. The entirely vegan menu features comfort dishes and deep fried delights that include curries, burgers and even a ‘Mill Hill’ kebab inspired by Leeds’ infamous after-hours eatery.

Customers can eat in, take away or order via Deliveroo (from early April). Diners who choose to eat in can enjoy a menu of cocktails, vegan beers, craft beers and premium spirits curated by Oporto’s talented bar team. Knave’s Kitchen will take residency within Oporto’s second room.

A pioneer of Leeds nightlife, Oporto has undergone a refurbishment which will see the bar re-launch on 29th March with new interiors, drinks menu and food offering while retaining the late night lunacy and rock & roll atmosphere which has made the bar one of the city’s longest lasting and most popular venues.

Oporto will continue to host regular live music nights. The venue is renowned for its intimate gigs which showcase the UK’s up and coming music artists, as well as local talent.

Paul Lane, Director at Leelex which owns Oporto, Neon Cactus and Jake’s Bar, said:

“The myth that vegan food is boring and flavourless has been pretty firmly debunked over the last couple of years. Knave’s Kitchen is here to challenge that old misconception even further with its unique style of vegan food.

“There won’t be a kale leaf or lentil in sight. Customers can expect 100% junk food with a menu of everyone’s favourite comfort dishes such as kebabs, curries and burgers. In fact, we’re confident we can win over even the most die-hard carnivores and vegan-sceptics.

“In addition to the launch of Knave’s Kitchen, it’s an exciting time for Oporto with a new drinks menu and interiors while retaining the rock & roll antics that we are known for.”

Knave’s Kitchen’s residency at Oporto launches from March 29th 2018 and will be open daily between 12pm and 10pm. Follow Knave’s Kitchen on Instagram @knaveskitchen and Facebook https://www.facebook.com/KnavesKitchen/ For more information email [email protected] or call 0113 245 4444.
