Christmas may look a little different this year, but there’s plenty of festive cheer to enjoy in Leeds this Winter Season. Country houses are transformed to winter wonderlands, Santa is waiting to meet you, and the city will glitter with Christmas lights and gorgeous trees!

13 November – 3 January, Harewood House
Visitors will delve into a voyage of the imagination this festive season, as a Christmas tale is recounted and the House will reveal its magic to all those in need of whimsical wonder. Created by connoisseurs of make-believe Lord Whitney, the House shares its favourite memory of when a little girl was granted a festive wish to experience a Christmas like never before. Having established a reputation as out-of-the-ordinary, creative and far from predictable, Lord Whitney have created a show which invites you to escape with them into an immersive Christmas story unlike any other. Explore Upon a Christmas Wish after dark, with Harewood Lates; their new late night opening on selected dates throughout November and December.

Christmas at Harewood has been designed with social distancing in mind, whilst allowing as many people to enjoy Upon a Christmas Wish as possible in a safe manner. Booked time slots and reduced capacity in the House provide a unique opportunity to enjoy the show, immerse yourself in the story and soak up the atmosphere with fewer crowds. More information

Composer and musician Abel Selaocoe has taken inspiration from his South African heritage, performing alongside the Orchestra and Chorus of Opera North as well as guest artists to create beautiful music that embraces the healing power of walking. Pick up a pair of headphones and meander on a musical adventure through the city as your sound pack triggers new musical chapters to accompany you on a transformative journey, taking in Leeds’ most recognisable landmarks. Be transported to a crisp, winter evening in Paris with this animated re-imagining of Act III of Puccini’s best-loved opera La bohème. This dramatic and intensely moving 20 minute short film features a soundtrack newly recorded by the Orchestra and Chorus of Opera North and guest soloists. Book a slot, wrap up warm, grab a pair of headphones supplied by Opera North and allow yourself to be immersed in this magical outdoor experience. More information

Tuesday 17 November, 4-9 December, Harewood House
Join Harewood for Christmas Card Printmaking with Folded Forest and learn to make your own lino printed Christmas card on Tuesday 17th November. There’s Christmas Reindeer Weaving with Leilah Vyner on the 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th December. Or create a beautiful seasonal wreath for your door this festive season with Leafy Couture flower school’s Christmas Wreath Making on 9th December. More information

What was once but a simple Christmas Tree shop, from this small acorn grew what came to be Stockeld Park’s most famous adventure season. Join Stockeld Park for Christmas fun with various events, including Santa’s Grotto, and watch the Enchanted Forest come alive after dusk with our famous winter illuminations! More information

27 November – 3 January 2021, Lotherton
Steeped in traditional Christmas magic and excitement, Lotherton is pleased to host The Christmas Experience once again for families to enjoy a festive trip out. This year will see Santa move into the Elf Village to allow for plenty of room for visitors to meet him and maintain social distancing. We have put hygiene and social distancing measures in place to ensure that Lotherton is COVID-19 secure. The 12 Days of Christmas woodland walk, Fairy Dell, traditionally decorated house and Wildlife World are all open for visitors to explore. All tickets must be pre-booked, including members, to ensure that we remain within our safe visitor capacity on the estate and that everyone can enjoy their visit. More information

5, 12, 13 December, The Hepworth Wakefield
Explore glass making techniques with Twice Fired Glass and create a series of three beautiful decorations for your Christmas tree at their Fused Glass Christmas Decoration workshop on 5th December. Work with florist Lizzie Simpson of In A Gadda Da Vida Flowers to create a beautiful festive moss-based twelve inch wreath for your home at their Luxury Christmas Wreath Making workshop on 12th December. Or explore the process of sculpting with willow and create a willow reindeer for your home or garden at their Festive Willow Weaving workshop on 13th December. More information

Friday 11 – Wednesday 23 December 2020, 5pm – 8pm, Harewood House
Add some extra Christmas magic with a private twilight visit to Father Christmas at Harewood from 11 December. This year he’s taken up residence in the historic old library where twinkling lights, rich decoration and the smells of trees make for a truly authentic experience a world away from the bustle of Christmas.
