The event

A strong event brings more than just an interesting conference programme and high-quality speakers, it includes brilliant delegate experiences too.

Previous SimGHOSTS events have had a unique aspect to them, from being partially held in the desert in the Middle East, or on the top of a roller-coaster in Las Vegas. So, organisers were looking for a truly unique delegate experience to host their technical training event, which would continue to envision a healthcare education culture where people are empowered to use simulation technology to improve learning and patient care outcomes.

Horizon, an award winning, leading-edge conference, learning and meeting space set in the heart of Leeds, knew that the key to attracting this conference to the city of Leeds rested in more than the strength of the space, the technology on offer or the rates available, but actually the strength of the experiences they were able to provide to the 150 attending delegates. Collaboration is one of the reasons that the city of Leeds is so successful at drawing in conferences and retaining events, and so Horizon approached a collaboration with The Royal Armouries museum to host a dinner and a private jousting experience for the delegates, where they would be able to take part in the historical sport and learn to be a real medieval knight during the two day conference period. As part of this, the team were able to watch and take part in real-life battle simulations, participate in swordfights using replica armour from the period, and learn all about jousting with real lances in a workshop with an expert from the Royal Armouries.

Megan MacBrairdy, Venue Manager at Horizon, said: “We were really pleased to collaborate with another Leeds venue, the Royal Armouries, on this conference. It was an exciting one to bring to the UK for the first time - and we were thrilled to have been able to attract a conference to the city which sat within one of our sector strengths - the digital healthcare sector. We knew with this conference that the delegate experience was key to this American company when they were looking for a new conference location, so it was essential to show them everything historically and culturally British. The jousting experience at the Royal Armouries was the perfect fit. All of the delegates really enjoyed taking part, and we’re sure that it has left a lasting impression on everyone that attended.”
