Bar Soba: Remixed and ready to rock Greek Street

17th June 2018

Just when you thought Greek Street couldn’t get any hotter, one of the city’s best-loved bars is moving in to turn up the heat. Bar Soba will be residing in the venue formerly known as Bem Brasil, which is currently undergoing a top-to-toe reinvention to become one of Leeds’ premier drinking, dining and dancing hangout spots.

The move from Merrion Street marks an exciting new chapter in the Bar Soba story, who promise to deliver their guests an even better space to sip premium cocktails, dine on daring new dishes and soak up the sounds of both UK and international DJ’s.

The transformation will see the bar decked out in Bar Soba’s signature urban luxe decor, which will include striking Geisha-style graffiti painted by talented local artists. Downstairs will boast an 11-metre long cocktail bar which will serve up cutting-edge cocktail creations and the best Asian and continental beers.

Smoke and ice

As you’d expect from Bar Soba, the talented team of bartenders will be on hand to mix mind-blowingly good cocktails that balance the best of the east with the west. Using smoke, fire and ice alongside premium pours and ingredients, each drink from the new cocktail list has a touch of drama and theatrics, resulting in some of the most Insta-worthy tipples you’ll see in the city.

The Bubblicious is one such wow-factor cocktail, blending Finlandia Grapefruit Vodka with Xante Pear Liqueur and glittery bubblegum foam harmoniously, creating an eye-catching drink you won’t find anywhere else.

If you’re a little more old-school when it comes to cocktails, then you might just be tempted by our selection of remixed classics, including the incredible Smoked Vanilla Old Fashioned and the Apple & Ginger Mojito.

Challenge your taste-buds

The new food menu blends the best cuisine from the streets of Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, China and Vietnam, and gives each dish a remix, resulting in some flavour combos that will challenge and delight taste-buds in equal measure. Prepare to be blown away by an array of sumptuous sides, such as the Dirty Katsu Fries with buttermilk chicken, Sriracha and mango mayo, and the Coconut Onion Rings with chilli-lime mayo.

Over at the small plates section, classic Soba dishes such as the Cheeseburger Spring Rolls are back and better than ever, whilst welcome new additions come in the shape of Korean Popcorn Chicken and Bang Bang Belly Ribs.

Those with specific dietary requirements won’t go hungry either, and care has been taken to ensure the gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options are anything but an afterthought. The Buttermilk Fried Cauliflower Katsu Curry is a total game-changer, whilst the Super Thai Fries which come smothered in peanut sauce, sriracha and chilli mayo are about as dirty as veggie food gets!

Sonic excellence

The ground floor will also house an integrated DJ booth with a seriously impressive Void Acoustics sound-system to guarantee the same sonic excellence you’d expect in the world’s best super clubs. Watch this space for news on forthcoming line-ups, which will include some of the best DJ’s from Leeds, Europe and beyond.

The first floor will be home to a 60-cover restaurant with flexible seating to accommodate both intimate and open dining experiences for couples and groups, as well as larger parties looking to celebrate a special occasion or host corporate events.

The all-new Bar Soba couldn’t have arrived at a better time, as it coincides with the brands most ambitious food and cocktail menu overhaul to date. Established in Glasgow back in 1999, Bar Soba has always taken inspiration from the street food vendors of South-East Asia, whilst making sure each dish has a unique ‘Soba’ twist.

Bites and Bubbles

To service the needs of the many neighbouring businesses, Bar Soba will be offering an unbeatable lunch offer between 12-3pm Monday to Friday, where visitors can chow down on a main course and soft drink for just £7. Thursday night is all about Bites and Bubbles, where we invite guests to catch some early weekend vibes with two dishes from the small plates menu and a glass of Prosecco or bottle of Sol.

Gillian Soutar, Group Marketing Manager, said “We had an amazing three years on Merrion Street and our Greek Street venue will see us REMIX Bar Soba Leeds to bring our guests an even better drinking, dining and dancing experience”.
Bar Soba will mark its debut in July with a launch party to end them all; be sure to follow them on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter for dates and details. You can also be the first to hear exclusive news about their re-opening by signing up at www.barsoba.co.uk/leeds.
