Craft Trio Delights Gallery Visitors

Glass and ceramics created by three exciting makers have arrived at The Craft Centre and Design Gallery for their Winter Craft Shows this October and have been inspiring a huge volume of visitors to the city. There is new work arriving every month at The Craft Centre so there's plenty for visitors to marvel at with every visit. The gallery is also getting ready for their next jewellery showcase 'Simply Silver' which starts this week. Designed to tie in with the British Art Show hosted by The Leeds City Art Gallery, The Craft Centre’s exhibitrion programme has a new show starting every month building up to a fabulous display of works to own or simply admire in the lead up to Christmas. Since September three new makers have been introduced to the gallery at the beginning of the month and this will continue right up to December. Jenny Ayrton

“Scenes are directly influenced by my life as a Devon-based mum; following visits to the towns, beach and moor I create tiny wire sketches based on the day’s observations. I have a young daughter and whenever possible I try to see the world from her viewpoint, I find inspiration in the mundane and overlooked; a washing line blowing wildly on the first day of spring, an unknown couple on a park bench, a door ajar giving just a glimpse of what lies within.”

 Hannah McAndrew

“Hannah McAndrew makes the kind of pots that give me warm glow inside, they are pots I can imagine using myself with great enjoyment every day. Her work retains a very strong connection to the historical slipwares seen in museum collections, strong forms with balanced decoration that make the most of the natural characteristics of clay and glazes. The decoration has a refined sophistication that gives her pots a contemporary edge.”
Helen Walsh, Curator of Ceramics at York Museums Trust.
