Two days of impressive golf and 50 professional players later, the winner is announced at the 2018 Golf Club of the Year

David Shacklady was crowded winner at the Leeds Golf Centre Senior Masters after shooting an impressive -8 after two rounds. For the second year running, the professional event was hosted by Leeds Golf Centre, crowned Club of the Year at the 2018 England Golf Awards.

The three days of true golfing action kicked off with the ProAm day on the 26th June, where teams of three of any age played alongside some of the top players in the senior game; European Tour winners Andrew Sherborne and Paul Affleck and Senior Tour veteran, Brendan McGovern. New faces included Gary Wolstenholme and Gary Emerson.

David’s form was there to see in the ProAm where he shot an amazing 62. He brought that into the main event and shot an impressive -8 in tough conditions, narrowly beating Brendon McGovern by one shot.

Nigel Sweet, the Operations Manager at Leeds Golf Centre, joined the Senior circuit for the first time in 2016 after playing the game for 38 years and set up the Senior Masters at Leeds Golf Centre in 2017. Speaking about the event, Nigel said; ‘’It’s been another fantastic event and congratulations to David who is our deserved winner with a very impressive score. I’d like to thank everyone for their support in making this happen again, from the sponsors to the players, and we look forward to year three.”

The Senior Masters at Leeds Golf Centre was not just an event for the players, family and friends enjoyed the three days of golfing action too – spectators were welcomed throughout the three days to watch a fantastic tournament which brought amateurs and pros together.
