Summer in the City

With the forecast picking up for July – whether it’s for a short break, a day out or a few hours away there’s always something to do in Leeds. One of the largest and friendliest cities in the UK – you’re guaranteed a warm welcome.

We’re preparing for the sunny weather with a fabulous line up of live music, dance and performance to keep you entertained.

The city’s biggest outdoor arena, in the heart of the city Millennium Square hosts a programme of events for all musical tastes, from opera to salsa and symphonic orchestra to 80s classics:

As part of the Royal Opera House’s BP Big Screen series, two classics will be live broadcasted on the Big Screen; with Carmen and The Marriage of Figaro. Whether you are an opera fan or a newcomer, bring a picnic, and enjoy free opera.

There’s an exciting mix of live outdoor music concerts in the Millennium Square Summer Series, which kicks off with ¡VAMOS! Leeds 5; there’s colourful live music, dance and performance, fun activities and sumptuous Latin American street food and drinks!

Dance the night away at 80s Classical; iconic songs of the 80s performed live by the original artists with the breath-taking Orchestra of Opera North.

Experience iconic dancefloor and club anthems at The Symphonic Sounds of Back to Basics with original guest vocalists, the full 60-piece symphony Orchestra of Opera North and a killer set list curated with legendary Leeds club Back to Basics.

Leeds Jazz Festival sees performances from over 30 established jazz greats and emerging talents in this four day event with fringe festival.

 

 

 

Embrace the epic Jurassic Park Live in Concert; sheer movie magic on the Big Screen with the stunning symphony Orchestra of Opera North performing live.
The last ever Cocoon in the Park takes place at Temple Newsam, so if you’ve never been to this amazing one day event it’s your last chance!
Take a trip to the stunning Harewood House for Classic Ibiza, an incredible evening of iconic Ibiza dance tracks brought to live by the Urban Soul Orchestra.

 

 

Catch a show at the iconic Leeds Grand Theatre; as the world’s best-loved shows Grease the Musical hits the stage with a vibrant young cast and very special guest artists Peter Andre and Ore Oduba sharing the role of Teen Angel.
Later in July see a star studded new adaptation of A Lady Vanishes the much loved thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
Leeds has a thriving live music scene so check out the wide range of venues across the city.

 

Looking ahead to August …
There’s more Summer Series at Millennium Square; Yorkshire’s biggest celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans life at Leeds Pride; Leeds Festival 2019 with the line-up including the Foo Fighters, The 1975, and Twenty One Pilots; as well as Leeds West Indian Carnival with Europe’s longest running authentic Caribbean carnival parade.
