Details
Housed in one of the most impressive Victorian buildings in Leeds, Thackray Medical Museum is truly unique and is the only museum of its kind in the North of England. Since opening in 1997, visitors have explored their medical past through innovative exhibitions and thousands of school children have been inspired though unique teaching of the history of medicine.
Exciting news!
The museum galleries, café and gift shop are temporarily closed for a £4m refurbishment. Plans include brand new and updated exhibitions and improved facilities. During this temporary closure we’ll be heading out on the road in our Emergency Museum, delivering fun activities at a festival near you – watch this space for further updates. During this temporary closure, the museum conference centre and pay and display car park remain open as normal.
The best way to keep up to date with all our news is to join our mailing list or keep an eye on social media.
The project is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Arts Council England, Wellcome Trust, Thackray Medical Research Trust, Wolfson Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation, Foyle Foundation, Leeds Inspired part of Leeds City Council, Yorkshire Ambulance Service Charity and others.
