MKi0113 2468 917workShop - FashionMKi (pronounced Mee-you-kee) is a fresh addition to Leeds’s independent retailers which opened in May 2010. Founded by creative director Vik Taylor, the store originally specialises in men’s designer wear but has recently launched a women’s wear line.
As well as stocking the ‘MKi’ own label, it also offers a range of independent designers including Comme Des Garcons and Saint James.
The name, Mki, comes from Japanese slang phrase ‘Miyuki-Zoku’, a term used to describe the first Japanese teenagers to adopt elements of the ‘Ivy League’ preppy look in the summer of 1964 and who were often found loitering outside the trendy storefronts on Miyuki Street in the upscale Ginza shopping neighborhood in their hundreds.
