A quarterly event of talks, live art and performances, mini-lectures, and conviviality

Our panel comprises Gary Younge, Kerry Young and Chaired by Amber Lascelles, University of Leeds.

Gary Younge is an award-winning journalist for the Guardian and The Nation magazine in the US. He is the author of the groundbreaking book _Another Day In The Death of America_ which is a searing and sobering portrait of youth, guns and the effects of gun crime in contemporary America. It was shortlisted for The Orwell Prize 2017 for political writing and has won two prizes in the US. His previous books are _The Speech_, _Who Are We?,_ Stranger in a Strange Land and _No Place Like Home_. In 2009 he won the prestigious James Cameron award for his coverage of the Obama election and the "combined moral vision and professional integrity" of his work.

Kerry Young is a British novelist born in Kingston, Jamaica, to a Chinese father and mother of mixed Chinese-African heritage. She is the author of three novels, Pao, Gloria and Show Me a Mountain and her writing has been nominated for the Costa First Novel and Commonwealth Book Prize. She is a Fellow on the Royal Literary Fund Fellowship Programme. She teaches creative writing as an Honorary Assistant Professor in the School of English at The University of Nottingham, and is an Honorary Creative Writing Fellow at the University of Leicester.
