Cartwright Hall

Cartwright Hall

John Loker is a British abstract artist. He was part of a group of painters that included David Hockney, Norman Stevens and David Oxtoby who trained at Bradford School of Art in the 1950s. Although intending to train as a commercial sign writer Loker has gone on to become one of Britain's most disciplined, yet original, free-thinking and category-defying artists.

Speaking to Ben Lewis, who has written a new book 'Horizons, Zones and Other Spaces: The Art of John Loker' the artist talks about his life and gives a revealing insight into his visually mesmerizing paintings. With journeys to Eastern Europe and Australia and still painting as he celebrates his 80th birthday there is lots to tell!

Accompanies an exhibition of the same name at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery.

Official opening (all welcome) 21 October 1 - 4pm, speeches 2.15pm, runs until 13 January 2019.

In partnership with Flowers Gallery, London.

This event is FREE, sponsored by the Friends of Bradford Art Galleries and Museums.
