Details

with Qi gong (Chi Kung) expert John Mackie

Qi gong is an ancient Chinese internal healing art.  It is a form of exercise that combines slow movement, breathing, posture and awareness. The simultaneous effect of breathing and slow movement brings the mind into the "here and now" - a space where worries and distracting thoughts become "absent", and an experience of stillness arises.

It is an excellent antidote to the stresses of 21st century living.  Over time it helps to release tension, increases flexibility, improves the immune system and, vitality. Qi gong can be practised by anyone regardless of their level of fitness.  It is widely used in Chinese hospitals as a primary treatment for recovery from many serious health conditions.

Part of Mindfulness Week. A series of free, drop-in sessions to help mark World Mental Health Day (10th October). All sessions will be run in the Colonel North Room, Kirkstall Abbey Visitor Centre.
