As seen on TV’s Glorious Gardens from Above
with Christine Walkden and featured on BBC’s Gardeners’ World
York Gate is a one-acre garden tucked away behind the ancient church in Adel, on the northern outskirts of Leeds.

Created by the Spencer family during the second half of the twentieth century, and now owned and managed by horticultural Perennial, it is a garden of immense style and craftsmanship, widely recognised as one of the most innovative small gardens of the period.

York Gate was a proud winner of a gold award in the RHS’s 2014 Yorkshire in Bloom competition. Indulge your senses with picture-perfect vistas, stunning architectural features and colourful blooms. Soak up the garden’s intimate atmosphere and relax on the lawn or in our newly renovated tea room with a cup of tea and delicious cake.
Whether you’re an enthusiastic gardening amateur or a horticultural expert, you’ll be inspired by York Gate’s ingenious use of space, meticulous attention to detail and resourceful use of architectural features across the fourteen garden rooms in just one acre, including:
• a Pavement Maze • the Old Orchard
• Pinetum and Arbour • Woodland Dell
• Nut Walk • Sybil’s Garden
• Canal Garden • Fern Border
• Herb Garden and Summerhouse • Alley and Sundial
• White and Silver Garden • Kitchen Garden
• Paved Garden • Front Garden.
Complete your visit to York Gate with a permanent reminder of the garden. Purchase a plant grown in our garden or a gift from our locally sourced selection in the newly extended gift shop.
