Details

Inspired by Bread, Circuses and TBD by Thukral and Tagra, and working with the National Farmers' Union (NFU), join this timely event to examine issues that affect farmers nationally and internationally today.

From India and Africa to the UK, food producers across the globe face many similar challenges – from climate change, fair trade and supply chain pressures to the urban/rural dynamic and promoting farming as a career for the next generation. Increasing pressure on farmers is also leading to a mental health crisis within the industry – something now being widely recognised in the UK.

This free event begins with the chance to explore Thukral and Tagra’s exhibition (open 6pm-7pm). Refreshments and a round table discussion from 7pm – mediated by YSP Head of Curatorial Programme Dr Helen Pheby – will follow, which aims to explore parallel issues between India and the UK, how farmers are responding and what we can do to help. Speakers will include local farmers, recently returned from rural Africa, who have been invited to share their stories, hopes, fears and requests. Additional insights will come from the NFU’s regional director and the agricultural charity RABI.
