Hazards of the Victorian Kitchen

Hazards of the Victorian Kitchen

Details

With Dr Jack Gann (Leeds Trinity University)

This talk goes around the Victorian kitchen looking at all the different ways it could harm you, from toxic cookware to pest infestations to adulterated ingredients, specifically looking at the ways in which the particular conditions of the Victorian age (mass urbanisation, mass transit, industrial-scale food production, new materials and technologies) actually made the kitchen more dangerous than ever before.

A talk to tie in with Abbey House Museum's Danger Zone exhibition.
