Useful/Beautiful: Why Craft Matters

Useful/Beautiful: Why Craft Matters

What is craft and why does it matter?

A new exhibition, Useful/Beautiful: Why Craft Matters, reopened Harewood House in Yorkshire and launched the inaugural Harewood Biennial, the first and largest exhibition of its kind in the UK outside London.

It features 26 of the most exciting British-based makers, from fashion and textiles to ceramics and metalwork, alongside a programme of events, bookable workshops and activities. Three new commissions are works from renowned craft pioneers Anthony Burrill, Faye Toogood and Max Lamb.

Harewood House, just outside Leeds, was originally built as a show house, using some of the finest craftspeople of the time. Fast forward 250 years and it is perfectly positioned to spearhead a conversation in what role craft has today and what potential it has to shape our future.

The exhibition continues to 1 September 2019.
