As part of the Leeds Summer Music Festival JazzLeeds presents a second day of jazz and blues in the Heart of Leeds. Millennium Square events are all free. Carriageworks events are ticketed

12-1 MILLENNIUM SQUARE -  “VIBEOLOGY” with John Settle (vibes) Bob Birch (organ) Alan Morrison (guitar) and Joe England (drums). Vibe-ology is a soul-jazz band led by vibist/drummer John Settle, with music from famous soul jazz groups and vibes players like Milt Jackson and Cal Tjader.

1-2 MILLENNIUM SQUARE - MORPHER Born in Leeds, fusing acoustic instruments with electronic effects, they blend their Jazz upbringing with hints of Drum and Bass, Hip-Hop and electronic music. Their live performance is an unforgettable experience where you will be exposed to unheard sounds and grooves that are guaranteed to blow your ears off

2-5 CARRIAGEWORKS IMPROVISATION CHAMBER WITH DAVE EVANS 

Ever wanted to improvise? Well here’s your chance. Learn to play tuneful jazz improvisations on an array of percussion and keyboard instruments with Leeds keyboard maestro and jazz educator Dave Evans. Age: 11+ years (Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult) Each session is 45 minutes long. 5-6 MILLENNIUM SQUARE – RON BURNETT’S MARDI GRAS 

Greg Wadman (trumpet),Bob Smeaton (piano), Ray Cooper (bass),Ron Burnett (trombone and vocals),Paul Smith (drums)
Trombonist and singer Ron Burnett brings his traditional jazz and swing band to delight you. Mardi Gras covers a range from 1920s to 1990s; Bix, Louis Prima, Fats Waller and Louis Jordan.

6-7 MILLENNIUM SQUARE – AL MORRISON’S BLUES EXPERIENCE 

A 9 piece Band dedicated to playing the blues. Led by blues guitarist Al Morrison, The Blues Experience is features the amazing vocals of Soul/Pop/Session legend Juliet Roberts 

7-8.30 MILLENNIUM SQUARE SWING DANCE WITH TOM SHARP JAZZ ORCHESTRA AND THE HONEY BIRDS

The Tom Sharp Jazz Orchestra started by performing at the legendary Jazz Leeds Christmas Concert at Seven Arts, and shortly after went on to win the prestigious Great North Big Band Competition (2016). With Tom Sharp as musical director, the band plays music from all across the big band repertoire of the twentieth century, focussing on the big swingers of the 50s & 60s, as well as showcasing arrangements from members of the orchestra. Established in 2012, Honeybirds met through a mutual love of intricate close harmony, swing music, 1940s style and fashion, and a fair amount of tea and cake!

    By Road: From all routes head towards Leeds city centre. Arriving in Leeds, follow the signs for the loop road. This road will take you around the city centre on a one way system. Millennium Square is located at junction four of the loop. Parking is located signposted around the city centre, with coach parking found next to it.

    By public transport: From Leeds city station exit the train station by the Queens hotel and cross over the road by the Park Plaza hotel. Walk straight up Park Row and cross The Headrow. Continue straight on and cross over Great George Street. Millenium Square is found straight ahead. From Leeds bus station head towards the market on New York Street, turn right onto Vicar Lane and at the crossroads, turn left onto the Headrow. Walk down The Headrow until you get to a crossroads with Nero on your left and Radisson SAS on your right. Turn right towards Radisson SAS and then walk straight on to Great George Street. Millenium Square is found straight ahead.
