Works by artists’ James Thompson and Annabel Taylor- Munt responding to the former Bridewell prison and Leeds Town Hall as a transformative space where new identities are constructed and performed

James Thompson work deals with the perception of space and its interpretation. Working across physical and digital media using pre-existing spatial situations as the starting point recorded and re-interpreted to construct new multi-dimensional experiences of reality.

James Thompson graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2012, previous exhibitions include: Expanding Spaces at Marsden Woo Gallery, London; Inflated Space III at Project Space East Street Arts. Film screenings: Emergence Defence Exercise Video at Whitechapel Gallery. Residencies: Leeds Art Gallery, Hospitalfield Arts and Cove Park Scotland.

Annabel Taylor- Munt work investigates hyper-masculine spaces and their positions in society, re-interpreting these environments by abstracting and reconfiguring how they are engaged with to create new forms and interaction through movements.

Annabel Taylor- Munt graduated from Goldsmiths in 2018, previous exhibitions include: MOD at Copland Gallery, London; The Environment Keeps Happening at Geffrye Museum and Tender Balance at Leeds International Festival 2019.

    By Road: From all directions head into Leeds city centre, upon arrival at the city follow signs for the city loop road (the one way system around the city centre). The Town Hall is found at junction 3 of the loop, and parking is found in nearby streets and The Light car park.

    By Public Transport: From Leeds City Station, exit the station by the Queens hotel. Cross the road to the Park Plaza hotel and head straight up Park Row. Turn left at the crossroads at the junction with The Headrow, the Town Hall is found at the next crossroads. If travelling by bus, from Leeds Bus Station walk up New York Street to Kirkgate Market. Turn right into Vicar Lane and then at the crossroads, turn left to The Headrow. Walk for approximately five minutes and you will arrive outside the Town Hall
