Stephen Sutcliffe in the Herbert Read Archive

Stephen Sutcliffe in the Herbert Read Archive

Through video and conversation, artist Stephen Sutcliffe presents some of his ongoing research into the Herbert Read Archive at the University of Leeds [].

Sutcliffe makes videos, installations and wall-based works that grapple with the representation of culture, identity and class in Britain over the last century – particularly in literature, theatre, film and broadcast media.

Born into a farming family in North Yorkshire, Sir Herbert Read was an English art historian, poet, literary critic and philosopher, known for setting new standards in British art criticism. Read co-founded the ICA in London and was a member of the Advisory Committee for The Gregory Fellowships in the Creative Arts at Leeds University in the 1950s.

Presented by Pavilion in collaboration with Leeds University Library Galleries [].
