The New Year’s Eve Double-bill: Women on the Verge

The New Year’s Eve Double-bill: Women on the Verge

This New Year’s Eve we’ve decided to pull together a couple of modern classics from the BFI Comedy Genius Tour to try bid farewell to 2018 with a little giggle whilst simultaneously saying hello to 2019 with a big firm “enough is enough”.

With its release Women on the Verge marked the international breakthrough of Pedro Almodóvar and, developed by Jane Fonda as part of her move into production, 9 to 5 was the second highest grossing American film of 1980 after The Empire Strikes Back. While wildly different, both capture some of the different facets of the fabulousness and the fury of the female experience.

Director: Pedro Almodóvar/ Colin Higgins
