Woman at War (Kona fer í stríð)

Woman at War (Kona fer í stríð)

Woman at war was not design as a lesson to those unconcerned with environmental problems. Benedikt Erlingsson (Of Horses and Men) addressed this topic as an excellent storyteller, in a typical for him quirky and intelligent way. He introduced Halla (Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir), an inconspicuous choir conductor in her 50s. What remains a secret to others is that she combines her placid work with illegal, highly-dangerous environmental activism – Halla ‘waged a war’ on a local Rio Tinto aluminium industry. Successful at that, she was about to commence her biggest operation, when unanticipated news arrived – her adoption application was finally approved.

Magnificent Icelandic landscapes, plot twists, Geirharðsdóttir’s splendid performance and wide-ranging music score – everything Benedikt Erlingsson knows how to combine to tell the story that is important to be told.
