Red Hoods, Wolves and Transforming Fairy Tales: St

Red Hoods, Wolves and Transforming Fairy Tales: St

Details

Once upon a time, there was a big bad wolf. Or a red-cloaked girl in a forest. But what if the story didn't go quite the way you imagined it? Or if you could change what happened?

Led by Big Teeth artist Elizabeth Dearnley, this workshop reveals some of the surprising hidden histories behind familiar fairy tales, and invites you to try your hand at creating and performing your own stories. Learn how folktales shift and change over time - from 11th-century werewolf tales to urban legends like Slender Man - and cook up some brand new tales for 2018.

Elizabeth Dearnley is an artist and folklorist whose work centres around interactive, collaborative storytelling. As a storyteller she has worked with museums, schools and arts festivals to bring old tales to life; she also teaches the history of fairy tales at University College London. Her immersive installation, Big Teeth, is showing at Leeds Central Library during Words in the City.
