Lofthouse Park near Wakefield, 1908-1922

_Pleasure, Privilege, Privations _is on display at Leeds Local and Family History Library and explores the local and global history of Lofthouse Park, a First World War camp for civilian internees and military prisoners. Lofthouse Park was a pleasure park for the people of Yorkshire until 1914. When war broke out, the site located between Leeds and Wakefield was transformed into an internment camp for 1,500 civilian 'enemy aliens'. From October 1918 until December 1919, it served as a prisoner-of-war camp for over 1,000 captured German officers and orderlies.

The exhibition_ _is part of the British German project _In the Wrong Place at the Wrong Time _and was developed with postgraduate students from the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies at Leeds University.

A free lunchtime talk on the camp and the war years is offered on 12 December 2018, 1-2pm.
