Writing in the Margins: The Annotated Nuremberg Ch


In the past, people used to write in their books freely, putting their thoughts and emotions in the margins. Their annotations have become an invaluable source for historians of reading.

Dr Nina Adamova (British Academy Visiting Fellow, St Petersburg University) will explore early English annotations in one of Leeds Central Library’s treasures – the Nuremberg Chronicle (1497), discussing how this most outstanding book on world history was read and interpreted in Tudor and Stuart England.

Our copy of the Chronicle will be on display.

    By Car:

    Follow signs for Leeds city centre. On approaching the city, follow signs for the City Loop. The loop road take you past the Library on the right (just after the Town Hall), with the closest car park being The Light.

    By Public Transport:

    From Leeds train station, walk up Park Row to The Headrow. Cross the road and turn left. The Library is next to the Art Gallery on your right, with and outdoor chessboard, outside the entance. There are two entrances - one for disabled access and one via steps.
