Male Homosexuality in Britain, 1954-1970: The Leed

Male Homosexuality in Britain, 1954-1970: The Leed

Details

Reading from his book _Odd Men Out: Male Homosexuality in Britain From Wolfenden to Gay Liberation, 1954-1970_, John-Pierre Joyce will talk about the pleasures, challenges and risks of being a gay man in the 1950s and 1960s.

He will focus in particular on the Leeds experience – including stories and information about the city’s underground scene, Leeds’ role in the law reform process and the attitudes of the police, the press and the public to homosexuality. Along the way, find out about some of the people and places that made Leeds a microcosm of gay Britain in the 50s and 60s.
