Doug Stanhope

Doug Stanhope

With material ranging from true-life graphic perversion to volatile social criticism, DOUG is vulgar, opinionated, brutally honest, shockingly uninhibited, and certainly not for everybody.

He started his career in LAS VEGAS doing jack-off jokes for free drinks. Not much has changed, save for the mullet.

DOUG has built a wide-ranging television resume of dubious achievement. He hosted The Man Show on Comedy Central as well as the ubiquitous pseudo-porn for the sexually crippled, "Girls Gone Wild", both solely and shamelessly for financial gain. He has appeared on "The Howard Stern Show", "Comedy Central Presents", "Floor Show Live" (while on ecstasy) and wrote, has even popped up on "The Jerry Springer Show".  In 2010, he was the Voice of America on the BBC’s “Charlie Brooker’s Newswipe”.

“The Doug Stanhope Podcast” features discussions with interesting individuals he meets on the road and at home in Bisbee, Arizona and in he’s also written two brutally honest books, "Digging Up Mother - A True Love Story" (2016) and "This Is Not Fame - A 'From What I Re-Memoir'"(2017).

None of it compares to seeing him live; DOUG is a two-time winner of Time Out New York’s “BEST COMEDY PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR”.

He’s appeared at multiple major comedy festivals including Montreal Just For Laughs, Aspen US Comedy Arts, Chicago Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Scotland, where he won the Strathmore Press Award for Best Act of the Fringe in his debut year.

Selected by both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter as one of the Top Ten Comics To Watch, Doug has released four CDs and three DVDs including "No Refunds" on Showtime in 2008.

"The charm, don't-give-a-damn swagger and aggressive intelligence that make for important, exciting comedy" - _The Guardian_

"There's a kind of Olympic torch of extreme American comedy, which passed from Lenny Bruce, through Richard Pryor and Sam Kinison... to the late Bill Hicks. Stanhope is the latest, and equally brilliant, bearer" - _Independent on Sunday_

"Ask anyone whose opinion matters, and they'll tell you Doug Stanhope is one of the top ten stand-ups in the world today" - _Chortle UK_

"Stanhope possesses a range of stunningly effective stand-up skills and a talent for subtle verbal phrasing. More importantly, he speaks out not only about sex and drugs and so-called perversions, but also about social and political hypocrisy. And his rants command attention because he clearly means every single thing he says" – _Time Out London_
